Action packed real-time strategy
Strategy games can often be a bit dry, so Project Aftermath, the retro-futuristic real-time strategy game is a breath of fresh air.
The back story isn’t particularly original, but gives you enough reason to wipe out the evil enemy without remorse. They destroyed your home planet, and enslaved others, so it’s time for some payback.
There’s a fairly complex control system, but you are taken through a really thorough tutorial that makes it all very clear. While Project Aftermath is not gory, the humor is often quite dark, and gives Project Aftermath quite an adult feel. The graphics look much like the how future was imagined in the 50s and 60s, which adds to the humoristic feel of it all.
You are given control of a Hero, Billsby to begin with, and a band of soldiers, and you direct them around the battlefields giving attack orders, choosing the best suited weapons and so on. The action feels really fluid, and if you enjoy watching aliens getting beaten up, you’ll like the action here.
Project Aftermath’s sound is mixed – the voice acting is all very good, but the sound effects could have been a bit meatier. However, that doesn’t detract from what is an enjoyable real-time strategy game.
With heavy focus on action rather than planning, Project Aftermath never gets dull.
