DLC for the Long Dark’s survival and story mode
The Long Dark: Tales from the Far Territory is paid DLC that adds three new territories to The Long Dark, along with three new narrative challenges, various new items, and 20 minutes of new survival music. The Long Dark DLC also overhauls existing items and existing systems like fire starting and fishing.
You will need the base game, The Long Dark, in order to play. The harsher elements of this game’s expansion are similar to the harsh game mechanics in Green Hell. The DLC also adds new items, including rare weapon variants.
New regions with new narrative challenges
This exploration-survival experience expands on the original story without resolving it. The new narrative challenges are all fetching quests. The wolves are just as vicious, especially the Timberwolves. The new animal spawning locations are a little more logical to help you avoid unfair deaths.
New game elements
There are several new gameplay elements and game mechanics. For example, there is an electrostatic fog that makes navigating more difficult, there is a handheld shortwave radio, and things like insomnia. The rare tool variants will please long-term fans the most. There are also new clothing types and new varieties of food.
The story is average
The reason why the survival mode is the most popular is that it is the best part of this role-playing simulation game. The story is so average and easy to forget, which is made worse by how the whole story is just one big fetch quest. It is very underwhelming.
Maintains a few of the game’s flaws
The biggest problem with The Long Dark is its survival gameplay and how many areas are exceptionally harsh. Though this DLC overhauls some of the more annoying survival aspects, the world is still far more dangerous than the real world.
