Free Interwar-era mod for Heart of Darkness

Killer Chris Mod is a free-to-play mod that creates a campaign scenario based around the interwar period, or the time after World War I. Starting in 1919, this custom scenario for the strategy game Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness captures the shifting landscape of Europe as well as the rest of the world.

Apart from the attempt to recreate a real-world scenario, Killer Chris Mod does a great job of reusing existing assets to capture this period. You can also check out the Divergences of Darkness Mod or the Historical Project Mod to experience other potential timelines.

Relive a brief time of peace

Killer Chris Mod takes place in 1919, a year after the recorded beginning of the interwar period from November 11, 1918. In the real world, it was relatively short but it featured a lot of significant changes in terms of economy, technology, politics, and society—all on a global scale. In this mod, however, the future of the world beyond 1919 depends on your decisions.

The best reflection of this brief period is in its map. History fans would find how this custom add-on departs from the Victorian Era map from the base game and find a world reeling from the aftermath of World War I. Asset-wise, there’s not a lot of change. This mod reuses the base game assets, with minor modifications in terms of the lore and starting diplomatic relationships.

Coming at only 7.29 MB, this is a minor yet fun addition to your Heart of Darkness gameplay library. On the other hand, there are a lot of bugs with this one. The problems range from minor responsiveness issues to entire game-crashing bugs. If it’s any consolation, the developer is responsive and listens to the fans across various platforms.

Good premise, partly unplayable

In terms of concept, Killer Chris Mod feels like a free and promising alternative to the interwar packs already sold on digital game distribution platforms. The mod accurately shows the world after World War I, and it updates almost all information on the participating countries, which is a treat for history buffs. However, you might want to wait for a couple of updates first before enjoying it fully.
