Choice Language: Shifting the Discourse on Reproductive Rights
Choice Language is a free Chrome add-on developed by the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund. This add-on aims to replace the term “pro-life” with “anti-choice” in online discussions surrounding reproductive rights.
In the realm of women’s health rights, the use of the term “pro-life” can be misleading and divisive. It implies that those who support a woman’s right to choose are somehow advocating for death. Choice Language seeks to reframe the conversation by introducing the terms “pro-choice” and “anti-choice” instead. By doing so, it aims to eliminate the negative connotations associated with the “pro-life” label.
This extension provides a more accurate framework for discussing reproductive rights. It acknowledges that pro-choice advocates are not against life, but rather support a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. On the other hand, it highlights that anti-choice advocates seek to restrict a woman’s right to choose. By using the terms “pro-choice” and “anti-choice,” Choice Language encourages a more informed and respectful dialogue on this important issue.
