Free zombie-themed MMORTS on PC
State of Survival is a free strategy video game wherein you must prepare your settlement and survive against the onslaught of zombies. Developed by FunPlus International AG, this survival horror title is an action-packed massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game (MMORTS) with a character-collection system and some idle gameplay mechanics.
Similar to other popular zombie games, State of Survival features a modern post-apocalyptic world. It makes you split your time between managing your home base and venturing out into the wild to gather supplies and complete story missions. This PC version is a port for the original mobile game.
Is State of Survival a good game?
In State of Survival, the world has been ravaged by a zombie virus outbreak, forcing humanity to survive in a collapsed society. Here, you get to play and collect different characters called “Heroes” who have different combat abilities and roles in your settlement. The plot centers around your team as they try to stay alive in their dying world. The main story is fully voiced and follows a linear script.
The gameplay mechanics are simple. As an MMORTS, the combat consists of you clicking on where your Heroes need to go and where their abilities need to be activated—whether it’s a placeable gun turret or a pipe bomb. The characters auto-attack so you just need to worry about timing. Meanwhile, you also have to manage resource-gathering and base-building for your settlement. It’s an idle game so things accumulate offline.
There are also multiplayer features like Alliances, wherein you team up with other players to take down difficult boss enemies for greater rewards. However, there are still some issues with the game. For one, since this is obviously a PC port with mobile origins, the tutorial still says “tap” instead of “click.” Another thing that was ported over was the lack of chat settings.
Build a new life in the post-apocalyptic world
Nevertheless, State of Survival is a solid zombie-themed game if you want something with a story that’s interesting enough and gameplay mechanics that aren’t too complicated. While the PC port isn’t all that different from the original mobile version, it at least gives you the option to play on a different device with a bigger screen. If you’re a fan of survival games, you can try this out.
