Space-themed match 3 game for PC
Super Space Fuel Inc. is a free puzzle game for PC developed by an indie developer who goes by the name megakode. It is match 3 game that revolves around a space theme. It was designed based on the old Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA) display standard that was used by IBM computers back then.
Similar to how games like Marbles Squared or Space Invaders were made for the ZX Spectrum, Super Space Fuel Inc. is also a game that was inspired by older technologies from the past decades to offers a retro gaming experience and a sense of nostalgia.
How do I play Super Space Fuel Inc.?
EGA is an IBM PC graphics adapter and the computer display standard back in the early 1980s before being superseded by Video Graphics Array (VGA). Super Space Fuel Inc. is a game created based on the old EGA standard. It utilized the same 640×350 resolution and the 16-color palette for its design. As far as running it goes, any MS-DOS compatible computer with EGA or VGA support will do.
As for the game itself, it features a simple premise and story. You’re in charge of a docking facility in space and it is your job to refuel space ships that visit your port. To do this, you will need to match 3 or more gems of the same type to produce the fuel needed. Each level will have a set number of moves available at the start.
It will dynamically change depending on how you play. The more gems you match, the more you will get to refuel ships. This will also be the determining factor in how high your score can go. Apart from that, though, there is no other game mode or advanced feature being offered by the game, contributing to the sense of repetitiveness and dullness after multiple times playing it.
A nod to the EGA games of yesteryear
If you’ve played EGA games back in the day, Super Space Fuel Inc. is a game that will definitely provide you with a nice dose of nostalgia as you play it. The overall presentation is spot on, from the design to the gameplay, and even the soundtrack used. If you have some moments to spare, this is a game worth a play.
