Free-to-play survival shooter

XERA: Survival is a free action game from Spotted Kiwi Interactive. This open-world action-driven experience combines player vs player (PvP) and player vs environment (PvE). As a mercenary, work with or against your fellow mercenaries as you conduct raids on unique worlds infested with dangerous XOIDS. With a combination of farming, shooting, exploration, and base-building, you’ll be left to your own devices as you try to find greater riches to improve your arsenal.

With its features, XERA: Survival feels like a sci-fi post-apocalyptic spin on games like DayZ or Rust, with a battle royale feel similar to PLAYERUNKNOWN’s BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG).

Start with surviving

One aspect that makes XERA: Survival both challenging and addictive is that it offers a wide variety of activities, most of them being fast-paced. Be ready to commit to hours of gameplay as you farm and build, with your progress always at risk of being raided by other players or the wandering XOIDS. The only “save” option available is a global inventory located at a safe settlement on the map.

As mentioned, it has a base-building system for all players across a 64-square-kilometer map. To put it in context, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has a 37 sq km map while Grand Theft Auto V has a map slightly over 75 sq km in size. Additionally, you won’t be left wandering aimlessly since you have a range of missions to complete, on top of regular events

However, be warned that these things won’t stop other players from raiding or harassing you. The game currently has no mechanisms to prevent player cheating and verbal harassment, or if it has, it doesn’t work as it should. Also, its base-building mechanics could still use a lot of improvements, being glitchy and restrictive as it is—making it ill-advised for such a fast-paced gaming environment.

Good game with poor multiplayer

In terms of visuals and premise, XERA: Survival is a good game. It has a lot of things for you to do on a massive open-world map. Hunt and farm alone or with friends, or prepare to ambush other players. However, it might be difficult for new players to enjoy because of the high level of competition paired with the risks of playing with cheaters and verbally difficult players.
