Retro multiplayer fighting game

Samurai Gunn 2 is a paid action game from Beau Blyth and Doseone. In this fighting game, which can be played solo or with other people, you get to choose from a roster of fighters that use a variety of melee and ranged fighting styles. Aside from its 2D arena-style battles, you can also go on an adventure and explore a world of action and fantasy—also available in solo or multiplayer mode.

Imagine a cuter, player-vs-player version for Blasphemous, with a lighter premise and faster pacing. Similarly, Samurai Gunn 2 has the retro sensibilities of Deepest Sword.

Choose your warrior

The first thing to notice with Samurai Gunn 2 is its retro approach, evident in its low-resolution pixel art style and clunky sound effects. However, it has surprisingly smooth animation and rather accurate hitboxes, the latter varying depending on the move and character you currently have. This also affects animations and skills such as throwing bombs and projectiles, running up walls, or making mid-air maneuvers.

Also, as mentioned before, the game offers a battle mode and an adventure mode. You can fight against AI or against other players. Similarly, you can go on adventures with friends. This is made more interesting by its great roster of characters. You can choose from over ten playable samurai warriors, including guest characters like the titular Minit or the Crewmate from Among Us.

Aside from the game modes, it also offers an in-app comic titled “Trigger Soul,” which further expands the lore. Also, it has a child-friendly Funn Mode that tones down the violence and remove blood effects. With a game this addictive, the game can still use additional content, especially for its adventure mode. With good teammates, you can finish this in no time and still want more.

A modern classic

By fusing old-school visuals and sounds with the smoothness of modern animation, Samurai Gunn 2 is the retro multiplayer you and your friends shouldn’t sleep on. It’s fun, fast-paced, and challenging, regardless of whether you fight each other or work together as a team. It also offers a host of other content such as reading material and child-friendly settings. Highly recommended.
