Twin-stick arcade shooter for mobile

JoyJoy is a free action game for mobile devices made by developer GameClub Inc. It’s a twin-stick shooter that will have players fight and survive against waves of enemies. They will have a variety of weapons at their disposal, finding the best one for each scenario and enemy type.

Similar to PewPew, JoyJoy features a combination of minimalist design and presentation that utilizes bright backgrounds and a combination of colors with flashy and over-the-top effects for explosions and weapons blasts. It also offers intuitive touch controls and multiple game modes to choose from.

A classic now on mobile

Twin-stick shooters are a subgenre of arcade games and are the way to go if you want a good challenge and mindless fun. They don’t have much of a story and instead focus all their attention on nonstop, fast-paced action. JoyJoy is a classic title that dates back to 2010, but has since received various modern updates and refinements, and is now available to enjoy on mobile.

The app comes with two game modes to choose from. There’s the Waves Mode which basically offers survival gameplay, and the Challenges Mode, wherein you need to complete tasks with specific conditions set. Various power-ups will drop that provide bonuses like increased damage or better ship defense. There are also six weapons to swap between as you engage different enemy types and bosses throughout the game.

If you ever find yourself stuck on a particular level, you can opt to adjust the game’s difficulty from one to seven as you want to make things a bit easier for you. This option will come in handy as things can ramp up rather quickly and you might encounter a slight difficulty spike at some point during your playthrough—nothing wrong with a little help, after all.

A joy to play

If you’ve never played JoyJoy back when it first came out, now is your chance to experience it on mobile, with all of its modern updates and everything. The gameplay stays faithful to the original release, and the transition to touch controls has been a seamless one. If you’re a fan of the twin-stick genre, this classic title is one that you should not pass up. Highly recommended.
