Virtual Reality FPS with Peripheral Hardware
Sony has created a strong VR FPS offering with Farpoint VR, a game that offers immersive 360-degree gunplay in an incredibly detailed world. It’s a story-driven shooter that uses an intuitive, yet stripped-back HUD to avoid breaking the immersion.
Great environments with compelling gameplay
After a catastrophe aboard a space station, you’re left abandoned on an alien planet, with insectoid creatures to fend off using your array of weapons. Sony have included support for an intuitive, external gun controller, which really benefits the overall experience, though it also bumps up the game’s price tag. The developers have kept the UI small and unobtrusive to keep the amazing, detailed world that they’ve created front and centre. There is a loose storyline, which helps drive the gameplay forward, but it can feel very linear at times.
Final thoughts
Farpoint is one of the better early FPS games that you can get on the PSVR system, although it’s also one of the more expensive VR games owing to the fact that it bundles in an additional controller. If this isn’t a concern, then it’s well worth a try.
