Free, turn-based online strategy game
Turn-based strategy games can often be too long and usually end up being really boring. Not in the case of Gunrox though.
Gunrox is a free turn-based online strategy game in which you control a small squad of three soldiers – either male or female – and fight against players from all over the world. You can customize your own three characters and then join any of the games available online, or simply create yours.
Gunrox only requires you to register a free user account in the developer’s webpage. From that moment on, you’re free to engage in a series of battles set in the most varied locales, all designed in an eye-catching colorful pixel-art style that’s not very common in this sort of games. In a way it makes Gunrox look a bit childish, but at the same time it’s very visually appealing and, above all, very quick in its responsiveness– no need to load heavy graphics.
The game features a wide variety of weapons which, together with a map that is gradually unveiled as you progress through it, makes strategy really important. You need to plan each turn very carefully, calculating the movements and actions of your three characters and anticipating those of your enemies as much as you can. After each battle, you’re rewarded experience points thanks to which you will eventually make your soldiers go up one more level.
The only flaw I could find in Gunrox was the difficulty to join a game. All the players I met were a bit rude and kicked me of all the games I joined. I couldn’t test the game properly until I created one myself. However this problem can be easily solved if you play with your friends.
In all, Gunrox is an original turn-based online strategy game that puts the emphasis on playability and above all, fun!
