Hide your activity from Google

Google Container for Firefox is a free Mozilla Firefox add-on by Perflyst that prevents Google from tracking your web identity as well as your online activity. This Facebook Container add-on’s fork help isolate your Google identity into a separate container, which makes it harder for Google to monitor your site visits with third-party cookies. Bear in mind that whenever you use this tool, it will delete your Google cookies as well as log you out of all Google-related servers.

How does Google Container work?

Through a red-colored browser tab called the Container, you will log in and use Google servers normally. All the non-Google links you click or non-Google website you navigate through will automatically load outside of the container. If you press on any Google Share buttons on other browser tabs, it will lead you to the Container and pass information of the website you’ve shared to Google.

However, embedded ‘Google comments’ as well as ‘like’ buttons will not work outside of the Container in order to prevent Google from associating any details about your website’s activity to your Google identity. Additionally,  you should expect that web pages that will require you to create or log into a Google account will not be supported also as this extension is designed to separate Google use from the use of other websites.

It is important to note though that this Firefox add-on does not block Google services but rather limits Google tracking. Thus, it can still monitor the data it has already obtained or you’ve given permission access to especially when you are browsing under their server. Other ad networks will still attempt to correlate your Google activities with your regular browsing.

Limit Google tracking

Google Container is a valuable tool if you want to control and limit the website activity that Google can access. Inside the Container tab, you will be able to browse freely without being concerned about Google tracking your website visits and activities. Although, it could somehow be a hassle in a way since it blocks some features to prevent Google from obtaining information and associating it to your online identity. A small trade-off in exchange for better privacy and security.
