A free modern-era mod for Victoria 2
The Modern History Mod goes beyond the contemporary era and brings Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness mod into the modern era. It comes with decolonization chains, dynamic international institutions and ideological blocs. It adds a mostly unique tactical approach to the game.
Like the New Era mod, it tries to bring the game closer to the present in order to extend the gameplay and add a little extra to the overall gameplay experience. The mod was heavily inspired by, or perhaps built on top of, the Victoria 2 Cold War Enhancement Mod.
The same game with modern historical elements
The MHM mod brings Victoria 2 Heart of Darkness into the modern era, taking it beyond the contemporary era. The game features a lot of Cold War-era events but then goes a little beyond that era to add a little extra to the gameplay.
Balanced a little different
As mentioned in the introduction, this mod is very similar to the Cold War Enhancement (CWE) mod, but it is balanced a little differently. As a result, you do get a different gameplay experience when you run through this mod as opposed to when you run through the CWE mod.
A brief but fair diversion
For veteran Victoria 2 players, this mod will not extend the game by too much. However, the changes offer a brief diversion and a bit of a change for people who enjoy the game. It isn’t too challenging and the changes made are fair, balanced, and logical.
Nicely arranged and built
Despite this Heart of Darkness mod having lots of similarities to CWE, it is a well-built mod. There are no noticeable bugs and no game-breaking changes. The alterations also have the desired effect on game mechanics. The effects are also logical, which helps to maintain game immersion.
