Paid horror game about toilet references

A Dump in the Dark is a premium adventure whose premise and content all revolve around toilet references. Make no mistake, though, this horror game from Oubliette takes its concept seriously. It features detailed graphics and realistic game physics on top of a truly horrifying story progression. On the other hand, it features excessive gore and dark humor not suitable for the faint of heart.

The level of horror and visual quality of A Dump in the Dark can be compared to Five Nights at Freddy’s or Little Nightmares. Other toilet-themed games include Toilet Chronicles or Poop Killer.

Horrifying and mostly confusing

Games about dumping and toilets are used for parody and comedy, but A Dump in the Dark goes a different direction. It plays its outrageous in-game elements to fit its intended horror. For starters, you play as a floating behind capable of shooting five different types of excretion, making it feel like a first-person shooter (FPS) at times. It immediately gets disorienting, and the excessive jiggle physics doesn’t help.

In terms of story, there are 10 separate episodes that divide your overall game experience. With each episode having a witty pun-based title, you get to play a total of 25 different levels for several hours of dark fantasy and toilet humor in an indescribable combination. The game also features different challenges, although it doesn’t set objectives or tell you what to do, leaving you to find out.

It still suffers from a number of issues despite its level of quality and the effort obviously put into the game. For starters, its intuitive controls are offset by its usually delayed responses. Additionally, the game is prone to freezing or crashing, leaving the player with no choice but to restart the game. Lastly, in its effort to create surreal environments, it disregards its own clipping and collision mechanics.

Elevating toilet games

By blurring the line between comedy and horror through its dumping references, A Dump in the Dark is a worthy weird horror experience. It has a number of really scary moments, even if you factor in the overly jiggly behind that you control in the game. Also, you can expect good playtime thanks to its numerous levels, each posing a unique challenge to the player. Recommended, but not for kids.
