Survive the vengeful toys
Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 is a horror game from MOB Games. In this game, you will have an adventure inside a doll factory. However, the factory is super dark and dingy. Worse, the mega-scary Huggy Wuggy is here, and he is out to get you.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 will have you solve puzzles as you explore the factory. More than Huggy Wuggy, other grotesque toys will also appear and scare you. Sure, you will spend too much time walking but don’t dismiss it as another walking simulator. However short, its playtime is more engaging than Five Nights at Freddy’s.
What is Poppy Playtime Chapter 1?
Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 starts with a 1950s-style information video. Here, you receive a VHS tape with a video that looks like something from the Fallout series. It shows an advertisement for the red-haired doll called Poppy Playtime and shows you around a colorful factory. However, the clip changes all of a sudden, and the picture becomes unstable. Then, you will see yourself inside the factory.
As mentioned, you explore the factory to look for its employees. As you explore, you will find a locked door, which you need to open by finding the right combination. Inside the door is a device that has a blue hand. This enables you to grab as many things lying around. Later, you can also use a red hand, which allows you to take two objects at once.
The atmosphere of the game is top-notch with the dark and dingy map and the grotesque design of the toys. However, the gameplay is too short it feels as if it ended before you actually start it. The episode ends with you finding Poppy Playtime, setting the stage for the second episode. Players will also find buggy performance a letdown, especially since you need to pay to play.
Is the game good?
Overall, Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 is a good experience that you can enjoy in less than one hour. Here, you get to explore and solve pretty inventive puzzles. There are also various jumpscares, which will have you at the edge of your seats. However, as it is only the first chapter, the run time is too short. The performance is also subpar for its price.
