Sight Words to Help Kids Read: A Great Tool for Early Readers
Sight Words to Help Kids Read is a free Android app that helps early readers learn how to read. It is designed for preschool, kindergarten, and grade 1 and 2 students, as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Language Learner (ELL) students. The app focuses on teaching Fry’s first 100 Sight Words, which are the most commonly used words in the English language. These words make up approximately 50% of all words printed in books, magazines, and other reading materials.
The app is divided into four levels, with each level containing 25 Sight Words. The first level has the 25 most frequently used words, which make up about 33% of all published words. The remaining three levels contain the remaining 75 words. The app’s goal is to help children recognize these words instantly.
The app is aligned with the Common Core State Standard for reading and is a great tool for early readers. However, it should be noted that learning to read is not limited to Sight Words alone. Phonics and reading with others are also important aspects of learning to read. The app contains advertisements via Google’s AdMob service, but no ads from sensitive categories are displayed.
