Free gameplay mod for Skyrim

Simply Knock SE is a free gameplay mod for Skyrim Special Edition that allows players to knock on locked doors of houses across the game’s world. This mod is a port of Chesko’s Simply Knock and is available for download from Nexus Mods. The creator sought to create a way to still interact after dark with NPCs who offer players quests.

Simply Knock requires the use of SkyUI and SKSE, as well as version 1.5.39 of Skyrim SE. If players are looking for alternative mods, Simplest Knock and Simpler Knock let players interact with locked doors. You can also check out Skyrim Skill Uncapper and Andromeda – Unique Standing Stones for changes to gameplay mechanics.

Interact with NPCs after dark

This mod allows you to visit NPCs after dark and attempt to interact with them behind their locked doors. Upon knocking on a door, you’ll hear a voice and have options to persuade or intimidate them into opening up. If no one is home or can’t answer the door, players won’t hear anything on the other side of the door.

Upon convincing the NPC to let you in, the area will unlock, and the occupants will be non-hostile. If they refuse, they’ll continue to decline for the next 24 hours.

How it differs from other mods

This mod is different from similar mods because it solves the biggest problem of discovering to what cell a door will lead. There’s no default Papyrus function for getting a door’s destination. That means that Skyrim’s scripting treats it much like stepping through a wormhole – you don’t know what’s on the other side.

Simply Knock uses a custom SKSE function that solves this problem. That is why the mod is so effective.

Adds a new level of roleplay

Simply Knock SE allows Skyrim players a creative way to interact with NPCs that typically lock themselves in their homes at night. Players can enjoy a more roleplaying style by adding the ability to knock and have the opportunity to convince or threaten them to let you in.

The mod creator is responsive to player bug reports and has updated the mod to work with Skyrim Special Edition. This mod uses scripting, so SKSE is required for it to work correctly.
