Atmosphere

DarkHill: Book of Shadow is a self-confessed “mini horror game”, so know what kind of experience you’re getting before you buy. The aim of the game is to search the DarkHill Cemetery for six missing pages from the Book of Shadow. These pages are needed to complete a dark spell that you need to leave. If you don’t find the missing pages, you will be doomed to remain in the cemetery with the others who “walk” there. Forever. You have to keep an eye on your sanity, which decreases as stress increases (such as it might when bumping into a ghost), but beyond that the game is a simple find the object affair. Visually the game almost makes up for some average graphics with a generous amount of mood lighting, but not entirely.

Creepy Fun

DarkHill: Book of Shadow is fun for a short time. The atmosphere is suitably creepy and the search brings a nice amount of tension. However the graphics do take away from the overall effect, and the game itself simply feels too short. If you can look beyond those two gripes, this game is definitely worth a try.
