Universal messaging tool

Beeper is a communications app from Pebble that bridges most instant messaging platforms on the market today. It provides you with a unified inbox where you can message all of your contacts. With this, you don’t have to install various apps on your device.

Beeper supports 15 messaging apps, including WhatsApp, Slack, Twitter DM, Discord, Instagram, Signal, Facebook Messenger, and Google Chat. It even supports iMessage, which is a native Apple messaging tool. However, to become a user, you need to fill out a form to receive an invitation. Moreover, the app comes with a $10 monthly subscription.

How does Beeper work?

Beeper is a tool that aims to work as a universal chat app. As mentioned, it unifies 15 different chat platforms into a single interface. With this, you can receive and send messages in one unified inbox. It works the same way as the apps it supports, allowing you to search, prioritize, and mute messages. Although, it separates direct messages and group chats into different tabs.

As mentioned, what makes the app amazing is that it allows you to receive iMessage chats even with Android and Windows. However, you need to have an always-online Mac to serve as a bridge. Or if you don’t have access to it, you can use a jailbroken iPhone with the Beeper app installed. The wild thing is, the developers will actually send you one if you subscribe to the service.

More than providing a unified inbox, the app also extends your chat experience with bots, extensions, plugins, and integrations using the standardized Matrix app. With this, you can enjoy more features. Although, unlike other messaging apps, you cannot simply sign-up for the app. You need to fill out a form and wait for an invitation. Additionally, using the service requires a monthly subscription.

Should you use it?

Overall, Beeper is a handy tool to have if you use different messaging apps. With this, you can have all your messages on one single platform. You can even use iMessage without switching phones. However, this feature is a bit complicated. Moreover, getting started with the app takes time as it requires an invitation from its developer before you can actually use it.
