Remove clutter on your desktop

Tidy Desktop Monster is a free utility created by an indie developer named Michael Kropat, who also goes by the online handle, mkropat. It is a desktop tool that helps users clean and de-clutter their desktops of various application and game shortcuts and preventing new ones from being created.

Similar to Folder Marker, Tidy Desktop Monster is a simple but handy tool that makes organizing desktop screens a bit easier. Users who have multiple unused shortcuts can remove them all with a single click. The portable program does not require any installation and can be used right away after downloading.

How do I use Tidy Desktop Monster?

Using Tidy Desktop Monster is straightforward. It only features a single button, labeled as Start Tidying Desktop, in its compact user interface. Upon clicking, the program will minimize into your system tray. It will also start running in the background while monitoring for any changes to your desktop. To open its UI back up again, double-click on its icon, or right-click and select the Open Settings option.

By default, the delete action is set to App Shortcuts—those that are automatically created by other programs. You can also pick the All Shorcuts from the drop-down menu, though, and this will prevent any shortcut from being created at all, even by you. There are also two checkboxes that you can tick. One is to let Tidy Deskstop Monster run at startup, and the other is to clean up other user account desktops too.

Deleted shortcuts are sent to your Recycle Bin to let you restore all or some of them to your desktop if you want. There have been times when Tidy Desktop Monster would permanently delete shortcuts, though. Not a huge deal, admittedly, but it is something that is still worth pointing out.

De-clutter your desktop with ease

In conclusion, the main draw in using Tidy Desktop Monster is its ability to keep your desktop clean. It stops programs from automatically creating shortcuts, which is typical during new installations, preventing unnecessary clutter buildup. It’s portable, easy-to-use, and can work on all user account on your PC. Highly recommended.
