Social, photo-based sharing

PLEASE NOTE: This app is no longer available for download. We’re leaving the review here for reference.

Color is a social sharing app for your Android that will allow you to take photos and create photo-based groups with people located near you.

The idea behind Color is to create a social network that doesn’t require you to log in or add friends. When you install the app, you’ll be asked for your first name – and that’s it. You then start to take photos of the things around you, and in turn, you’ll see photos that others within 150ft (46m) of you have added.

It’s important to bear in mind that the only photos that get shared with Color are the ones taken with the app, so your personal photos stay private. Color automatically places the photos you post and receive into location-based groups. You’ll also be able to comment on other people’s photos and like them.

It’s fun to see the photos taken by other people around you, but in all, Color seems like a very strange app. It’s still in early stages, but it seems really badly developed – there are no instructions, it’s unclear what the app’s buttons do and there are no configuration options. The matching app for the iPhone, however, seems a little more complete.

Color is a fun sharing idea, but it needs a lot more work before it’s user-friendly for Android.
