An 80s-inspired roguelike deck-builder

Nitro Kid is a roguelike deck-builder game where the player takes control of the eponymous Nitro Kid, a protagonist who fights crime using kung fu and special powers. The player must build and select from a deck of cards in order to defeat enemies and traverse the game world, which is heavily inspired by 1980s media and synthwave imagery.

This game can be likened to any other roguelike in terms of gameplay (for example, Dead Estate) but is distinctive because of its neon-themed art style, which can be found in games like Neon Abyss.

Fight bad guys

As Nitro Kid, the player must fight his way up through the many floors of INFINITY tower — the home of the megacorp, INFINITY. Along the way, the player must save children that INFINITY has kidnapped, fight enemies, and clear rooms. Ultimately, the player’s goal is to put INFINITY out of business.

80s-inspired aesthetic

Nitro Kid is a game heavily inspired by movies from the 1980s. The aesthetic — a particularly popular one of late — features heavy use of synth-based music and neon colors (pink, blue, green, etc.). The main character and the story are also a homage to many movies from that decade.

Specific appeal

While the game itself is not unique in terms of gameplay, it makes itself distinct by combining that gameplay with the 1980s aesthetic. Still, the game will hold limited appeal to players who are not interested in that aesthetic or do not enjoy roguelike or deck-builder games. A demo of the game is available to try.
