Revisit GTA 3 locations with this mod

GTA 5 Liberty City Mod is a free game utility for Grand Theft Auto V. In this user-created mod, you can revisit iconic parts of Liberty City, best known as the setting for Grand Theft Auto III. This brings content from the older 2001 game into the modern age with improved graphics and updated game physics.

GTA 5 Liberty City Mod adds a new location to the already huge open-world map of GTA 5. For explorers looking for new locations, this mod is similar to the GTA 5 No Water + Tsunami + Atlantis Mod and the GTA 5 Prison Mod.

Old locations, new engine

By faithfully recreating iconic locations in GTA 3 such as 8-Ball’s Auto Shop and the broken Callahan Bridge, the mod evokes nostalgia for players who played the GTA 5 predecessor decades ago. The mod developer also does a good job of bringing these locations into the GTA 5 world, sporting updated graphics and working with modern game mechanics. This makes for a good fusion of the old and the new.

Another feature that completes it is the inclusion of a full minimap with the complete placement of location markers as they did in the original game. If you’ve forgotten key locations or wish to revisit places, the minimap makes it all easier. However, the iconic “Hidden Packages” are not included. Similarly, it only includes the map and locations; skins of GTA 3 are likewise not included in the mod.

While it captures Liberty City details in great detail, it’s far from perfect as a mod. First, the minimap add-on only works with the right Liberty City Mod and could cause incorrect orientation or could even crash your game. Also, players have complained about incorrect placement or map location even when they were successful in installing the mod. Whether this is an issue with the mod itself or the game engine remains unclear.

Revisit Liberty City

The main value with the GTA 5 Liberty City Mod is in its nostalgic value. It lets GTA 5 players revisit locations in the old GTA 3 game without having to reinstall an old game and suffer dated graphics and game mechanics. This way, you can enjoy Liberty City in all its modern video game technology goodness. However, while it’s visually pleasing, its game integration mechanics need more work.
