Atmospheric point-and-click adventure PC game

HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE is a free adventure video game for PC that was created by indie developer, Motvind Studios. It is a point-and-click mystery narrative done in beautiful pixel art styling and features an original soundtrack to go along with its powerful, well-written, and touching story.

HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE bears a strikingly similar atmospheric feel to This War of Mine. It has a sense of melancholy to it that slowly permeates as players progress through its story. The game also has a Deluxe Version, containing various bonuses and freebies to supporters who will donate to its development.

What is HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE about?

HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE is set in Härunga, a small industrial town in the bible belt of the mid-north Sweden. You play as Sara, an aspiring writer who returns home after being away for 10 years. You will get to experience her story and join her as she conducts a personal investigation surrounding the mysteries of the tragic fate that has befallen her estranged best friend.

You will get to meet old friends and acquaintances as you try to piece together the mystery behind what happened to your once dear friend. Your various interactions in HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE all hold weight with them. What you say and do has an impact on how things unfold in the game. Not everything and everyone is as they seem, and it is your task to decipher it all.

The game was made using beautifully crafted pixel art coupled with an original soundtrack to go along with its polished and solid writing. If you’re wanting to experience this game for yourself, just be aware that HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE is relatively short: only an hour-long adventure—debatable, though, considering the type of game it is.

Beautiful and touching

Without giving too much away, HOW WE KNOW WE’RE ALIVE’s story needs to be experienced to be truly felt and appreciated. Despite tackling some pretty heavy and dark themes, it’s a harrowingly beautiful tale that will resonate with a lot of players and deserves an instant recommendation.
