A whimsical 3D platformer

Onirism is a third-person adventure game from independent developer Crimson Tales. Play as Carol, a young girl traversing dream worlds in an attempt to rescue her beloved stuffed bunny. If this premise sounds intriguing, you may also enjoy Finding Teddy, a point-and-click adventure game.

90s nostalgia

Onirism is a 3D platformer in the vein of 90s classics like Spyro the Dragon, Zelda, and Banjo-Kazooie. Gameplay is a mix of traditional platformer fare: explore, solve puzzles, search for items, talk to NPCs, and, of course, fight monsters. The various worlds the player visits are colourful and varied – explore lava lands, icy landscapes, and fantasy towns in your quest to rescue your stolen toy.  The combat system is simple and intuitive. Carol fights an eclectic bunch of enemies including toys, robots, bugs, and other fantastic creatures. While the graphics appear childish, the game itself may not be completely child-friendly as Carol can equip herself with a number of guns in addition to her more whimsical weapons.

Been there, done that

Like many games tapping into nostalgia, Onirism offers little innovation and few surprises. It also lacks the creativity one might expect from a game based on the mind of a child.  However, if you’re craving a 90s-style 3D platformer, Onirism’s tried-and-tested gameplay might be exactly what you’re looking for.
