Demo version of a classic RPG

Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo is the demo version for the remastered version of Resident Evil 4. As a teaser to the reimagined action game, it focuses on the now-iconic opening sequence. You play as protagonist Leon S. Kennedy in a rural village in Spain. It also features the iconic Chainsaw Man, which will test your survival skills.

Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo is free-to-play and doesn’t have a time limit. You can essentially play it for as much as you want. Other entries in the franchise include Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7.

Make your way through the village

Not to be confused with Resident Evil: Village, Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo is also set in a village, this time in Spain. The first thing to note is that it sports upgraded graphics, thanks to its use of Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine. You can also say goodbye to the rigid and angular movement from the original and expect the smoothness and realism from the more recent Resident Evil entries.

Of course, the gameplay mechanics are also updated to keep up with the changing times. Certain puzzles are changed and enemy behavior has been updated. Even more, it makes the story a lot heavier than the original. Instead of just focusing on Leon and his quest for the rest of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, it becomes a short standalone episode that puts the spotlight on the poor villagers.

As a demo game, it only allows you to enjoy the first chapter of the RE4 remake. Needless to say, it has a short playthrough. Depending on the player’s skill level, finishing the entire demo usually takes less than 20 minutes. Also, as mentioned, players who have tried the original might be taken aback by the increased overall difficulty since the villagers move faster than in the 2005 title.

A good teaser for RE4 Remake

By going beyond demo conventions, Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo serves its purpose of helping you decide whether you’d work well with the full RE4 Remake. It is a definite upgrade over the original, from the graphics to the gameplay, that makes this chapter of the adventure a refreshing experience. Aside from the short playthrough, which is to be expected, this speaks about the undying quality of the RE franchise.
