PIPvid – Enable JS PIP support for HTML5 videos
PIPvid is a Chrome extension developed by gregwhitworth24. It falls under the Browsers category, specifically the Add-ons & Tools subcategory. This free extension enables picture-in-picture (PIP) support for any HTML5 video element on Chromium-based browsers.
Chromium-based browsers already support PIP, but many websites do not utilize this feature. PIPvid solves this problem by adding a small icon in the top left corner of video elements on web pages. When clicked, the icon opens the video using the PIP API and the built-in PIP technology of Chromium.
To ensure optimal performance, the extension requires users to click the extension button for it to add the PIP icon to videos. PIPvid has been successfully tested on popular websites such as YouTube, NFL Gamepass, Disney Plus, Netflix, CNN, ESPN, Twitch, and Mixer.
However, it is important to note that some websites that heavily modify the DOM may not currently work with PIPvid. Examples of such websites include Polygon, Hulu, NBA.com, and Hotstar.
