Free non-combative RPG

BOOK OF HOURS is a roleplaying game developed by Weather Factory. Free to play, this game will take players to an occult library. Here, you will take on the role of a librarian, who must rebuild the collection of books ruined by the fire. All this while guiding visitors who seek your assistance.

BOOK OF HOURS is dubbed as a standalone expansion of Cultist Simulator. With this, expect the system of the narrative card game. However, you should note that this game is a combat-free RPG. Moreover, you gain new skills by reading books on the occult.

What is BOOK OF HOURS?

BOOK OF HOURS has a rich, non-linear story about the terror and majesty of books. It centers around the occult library called the Hush House. For centuries, it was a fortress of knowledge. However, a fire broke out, ruining the collection of books. Worse, the librarian is dead. Luckily, you—the player—have a unique talent and occult knowledge that can rebuild the collection of books and the library itself.

As mentioned, the game is completely devoid of any fighting. What you can do here is explore the library and restore books. Some books also needed purifying to remove the curses and shadowy taints. However, while doing all these, you will also need to assist visitors who come seeking assistance. You will need to provide them with books to help them with their endeavors.

Since it is an expansion of Cultist Simulator, some gameplay of the card game will be present. However, while the former is unnerving and usually ends in your demise, this game will be relaxing and reassuring. Moreover, as a librarian, you have free rein in your place. The books can be dangerous, though. If you open too many cursed tomes, you will cut your librarian career short.

Should you play it?

BOOK OF HOURS is a game that makes being a librarian a thrilling career. Sure it lacks combat, but the danger that the occult books have makeup for it. Moreover, there is more to do than simple cataloging of books as there are threats to the library that you need to look out for as you play.  Overall, this is a game for bookworms.
