Yu-Gi-Oh card battle game

Yu-Gi-Oh! CROSS DUEL is a four-player card game developed by Konami. In this free mobile game, players will duke it out in real-time with duelists worldwide. The goal is to be on top by beating other players in four-way duels.

Unlike other Yu-Gi-Oh games, such as Master Duel, Yu-Gi-Oh! CROSS DUEL is not a TCG. Instead, it looks like a lane-based card game, like Teppen or Clash Royale, but with a Yu-Gi-Oh coat of paint. The game also remained faithful to the anime by featuring the attack point pop-up of the monsters when they are summoned.

How do you play this game?

As mentioned, Yu-Gi-Oh! CROSS DUEL does not play like Yu-Gi-Oh TCG. In this game, players have three zones, with the left and right zones for targeting players on your left and right and the middle zones for players across from you. You have two turns to reach the opponents’ side of the field. With this, it takes a travel time to score free damage on your opponents’ life points.

You take turns simultaneously. Basically, you set up your board every turn, free from the other players’ eyes. Also, things like summoning limits do not exist in this game. With this, you can drop a board full of monsters. Additionally, monsters lose attack every time they battle. If one monster is particularly oppressive, it won’t be after its first battle. Moreover, it lacks OTKs like similar games.

However, the game is more directed at anime fans rather than the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! It has an incredible level of polish, with every monster having a 3D model and attack. Moreover, each monster pops up when they’re summoned, like in the anime. You can even set battle companions to give you voice lines as you play. However, this game has a much smaller pool of cards to draw from.

Is the game good?

All in all, Yu-Gi-Oh! CROSS DUEL is a great mobile game, just maybe not a great Yu-Gi-Oh! one. Its gameplay does not follow those card games inspired by the anime. However, by mixing cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG with its own gameplay, you get a pretty interesting and unique game. Additionally, it has four playable modes, giving you plenty of content to enjoy.
