Add 6 seconds of video to your tweet

Already available for the iPhone and iPad, Vine is a free application that can be used to create short 6 second videos. You can then insert the mini-montages into your Twitter stream or Facebook news feed.

A fully-fledged social network

Vine is a fully-fledged social network. You can like the videos that you enjoy, follow users, add hashtags to what you post to increase your popularity and much more. The clips you record can be then be broadcast on the Vine network or on Twitter and Facebook.

140 characters followed by 6 seconds of video

Acquired by Twitter in 2012, Vine is currently the only app that allows you to add videos to your Twitter stream. The first thing that strikes you when installing Vine, it is its ease of use. Touch the screen to start recording then release your finger when you’ve finished. But why has this not been invented before now? It allows you to create dynamic montages. Sound is also integrated and can be used to punctuate your clip.

Our opinion

Free and supported by Twitter, Vine has everything it needs to become the go-to app to share videos, especially as its full potential still hasn’t been tapped into.

The latest version of Vine now comes with a + button at the top of each feed that allows you to follow that channel and get updates in your news feed.

Other enhancements include a new iOS 8 extension, which allows you to share videos directly from your camera roll or other video apps. Vine now also supports iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users.
