Shoot, Loot, and Build In This Online Survival Game
Vigor is an online free-to-play action and multiplayer survival shooter video game wherein you fight as against others in order to survive in post-apocalyptic Norway. The nuclear war had devastated the world and Norway is the last bastion of hope left for humanity. You play as a nameless Outlander who comes to the rugged land, filled with similar Outlanders scouring the place for much-needed resources. If you want to survive, you need to loot around, build your shelter, and keep yourself safe from those who may want to forcefully take from you.
Worth the Risks
Like any survival game, Vigor requires you to take risks to get what you need. Post-war Norway is filled with abandoned places that may have some items you can use. In order to even start building your own shelter, you need to be prepared to get out there and encounter danger—in the form of others looking to gather resources, as well. Weapons, food, and building materials are just a few of the resources you can collect and take back to your base, and in this land constantly being fought over, they are precious treasures you should be careful with. If you die in a skirmish, all of your items—from weapons equipped to loot gathered during that time—will be lost forever.
Stock Up on Ammo
Leaving the safety of your shelter means being prepared to face issues and there’s no bigger problem than the presence of other Outlanders with the same self-sustaining goal as you. Resources are limited everywhere so it’s no wonder that you and other players may fight over them with guns a-blazing, but you can also take the stealthier route and keep your head down to avoid confrontation. Vigor allows 8-12 players on several small maps hosting various unique environments befitting a post-apocalyptic survival setting. These encounters are session-based matches held outside of the safety of your home and you’ll mostly be using guns that are intentionally loud and will catch the attention of others, so be well-prepared.
Home Sweet Home
What will really motivate you to enter matches is the future of your shelter. The more you gather resources, the more you can upgrade your homebase from a filthy hovel to a comfortable home. Over time, you can create resources in your shelter, with a garden and your own electric generator. Once you’ve reached a peaceful life, you can then start donating the supplies you’ve gathered to the less fortunate. This goal promises a life with fewer worries since your upgraded shelter can provide for your hunger and thirst and even give you a place to train your skills.
A More Intimate Survival Game
As a multiplayer survival shooter, Vigor lacks the grand scale that most survival games have—and that’s actually a good thing. The small pool of players for every encounter and the temptation to risk yourself for the thought of more rewards make for much tension in every match. Despite some disconnection issues and unwieldy gameplay, Vigor doesn’t try to bait you with tons of microtransactions. You can buy some items, but they’re mostly cosmetic and won’t turn Vigor into a pay-to-win game. All in all, Vigor is an interesting title to try if you like this genre of gaming.
