Hack and slash through the Three Kingdoms
The age of The Three Kingdoms comes alive with the arcade action of Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers.
The story of China’s Three Kingdoms has been retold for many years. Gamevil’s Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers is a retelling of one of the stories involving three warriors who became sworn brothers. Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers presents the story with fast-paced side-scrolling action.
Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers focuses on fast, action arcade gameplay. Controlling the main character is performed through an on-screen direction pad while normal and special attacks have their own buttons. Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers succeeds in quick hack-and-slash gameplay; players will be consistently hitting the attack button. Special attacks include a charge attack and dash causing large amounts of damage.
Visually, Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers uses an art style crafted from Chinese calligraphy. Each type of character is recognizable while major characters contain the most detail. There is not much when it comes to a soundtrack other than the title screen. The main sound effects are the swinging of weapons and the deaths of enemy soliders.
It is not uncommon for Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers to send waves of enemies towards players and the amount on-screen is impressive. Add in the numerous items that can be used and the combat of Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers can be surprisingly deep.
A small learning curve is present, especially with the control scheme which also affects the camera movement in-game, but soon enough players will be devastating entire armies.
Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers may be a simple action/arcade title; but it presents it with a great style.
