Fend off your girlfriend’s ex
V.S. TABI Ex Boyfriend – Friday Night Funkin’ Mod—also called V.S. Ex—is a free video game utility wherein you have to fight off your girlfriend’s ex-lover. Developed by Homskiy, this is a fully-voiced fanmade mod for Friday Night Funkin’ that features a full week of new songs.
Similar to the Mid-Fight Masses and Hatsune Miku mods, you face off against an original enemy who has actual lore in relation to the canon story. Take note, however, that the difficulty of the songs can inflict extreme lag while playing. Plus, it has flashing lights so you best enable Photosensitive Mode.
A dark past
Friday Night Funkin’ is a free-to-play and open-source music game first created for the Ludum Dare 47 competition and released in 2020. In the game, you play as Boyfriend—who’s trying to go on a date with his Girlfriend. However, numerous characters try to thwart your attempts and you have to defeat them via sing-offs. This rhythm game became highly successful and spawned various different mods to keep things fresh.
One type of mod is the addition of new characters into the game—and this is exactly what the V.S. TABI Ex Boyfriend mod does. Here, you face off against Tabi, the former lover of Girlfriend who had been embroiled in a nefarious affair with Girlfriend and her father that sadly cost him his normal life. He seeks revenge against the two now and you end up clashing with him.
This mod adds three new songs and voiced dialogue for Girlfriend and Tabi. Tabi’s AI is also pretty unique. During his last song, you slowly lose health and he can push you back on the bar when it’s his turn—something that opponents usually can’t do as you only get pushed when you miss notes. The screen even shakes in Windowed mode. This tends to lag the game, though.
A different kind of FNF experience
All in all, V.S. TABI Ex Boyfriend – Friday Night Funkin’ Mod is a powerful mod for Friday Night Funkin’ for a good reason. Not only does it add a new intimidating enemy character but the songs are difficult enough with the addition of unique mechanics during your fights. However, these can actually make the notes lag a lot—making you miss a lot.
