Driver letter management tool for PC

USB Driver Letter Manager is a free utility tool for PCs created by a developer named Uwe Sieber. This program helps users manage and control the drive letter assignment for USB flash drives. It allows them to assign any drive letter that they want.

Just like with Rufus and USB Flash Drive Data Recovery, USB Driver Letter Manager is another utility that was specifically developed for USB devices. In this case, it’s a handy tool to be able to assign a specific drive letter whenever one is plugged into a computer.

How does USB Drive Letter Manager work?

In Windows, whenever you plug in a USB device like a flash drive or an external hard disk, it will be detected and be assigned a drive letter. It’s all being handled dynamically and depends on what’s already on your computer. Let’s say you have two HDDs installed. Those two will be given the C: and D: designation. Hence, when you insert another drive, it will be given the E: letter as a result.

If you tend to plug in multiple USB devices throughout the day or you have similarly labeled network devices, keeping track of everything can get a bit tricky. This is where USB Drive Letter Manager comes in to provide more control over how these assignments are made. With it, you will be able to do things, such as defining any letter for USB devices or even assign a permanent letter to them using an INI file.

This tool also comes with some handy extra features like allowing you to define autorun events and offers basic protection against BadUSB, an exploit that is known to target certain types of USB firmware. If all you need is a way to change drive letters, though, that is a function that is already available in newer versions of Windows.

Assign driver letters easily

If all you need is a way to manage and assign drive letters to your USB device and you’re running new versions of Windows, then that feature is already built-in and available to you. However, if you are on older hardware or you like the extras that this tool provides, USB Drive Letter Manager is a free program that is worth checking out
