Free de-make of a classic

UnDUNE II is a strategy-based simulation developed by Liquidream. This free game is a de-make of the classic real-time strategy (RTS) game Dune II. It takes players back to the planet Dune, where three houses are fighting for total control.

If you are a fan of the original Dune II game, everything in UnDUNE II will be familiar. It features all three Mentats, all nine mission levels, all building types, and all 21 unit types. Even the sandworms and terrain types are present. However, there are a few issues to consider, including glitches that affect gameplay.

How do you play this game?

If you’re familiar with the classic RTS Dune II, UnDUNE II will be easy. The basic principle of the game is that you play as one of the factions on the planet Dune. All three factions are vying for total control of the planet, and you can do this by building up your bases. Look out, though. Besides the other two factions, native lifeforms will also prove to be a hindrance.

There are various structures that you can erect on your base. For one, the Wind Traps generate electricity to power your buildings. Refineries, meanwhile, take raw spices—mined by Harvesters—and convert them into credits. Having more credits allows you to build more. More than building, you can also take your units to explore new terrain. Be warned, though. Your enemies can attack your units during exploration.

You can play the game using your mouse. LMB lets you select your unit or building or choose your destination or target. Meanwhile, RMB enables you to deselect or cancel. As mentioned, various familiar Dune II elements will be present, including the animated map and intro, music, and sound effects. Moreover, it is not only mouse and keyboard friendly, but it also spans a massive 11 Pico-8 carts.

Nostalgic experience

If you are a fan of Dune II, then UnDUNE II is the game for you. It captured the spirit of the original game perfectly. The mechanics are well-preserved and adapted to bring back so many memories of old-school gaming vibes. Moreover, it offered hours of gameplay. Although, it is far from perfect and still comes with a few issues. Thankfully, the developers are constantly updating the game.
