Tsuro – The Game of the Path is a digital version of a hit board game
The Tsuro – The Game of the Path mobile app brings the 2004 board game onto iOS devices. Move your piece across the board, creating paths for yourself with random tiles as you go. Your goal is to keep your piece moving around the board the longest; there’s no finish line.
A digital board with digital pieces
Tsuro – The Game of the Path does its best to create a digital game that’s as close as possible to the experience of playing the board game. The UI is minimal, simply representing a board with pieces on it and a hand of tiles. If you’ve ever played the board game, you’ll find it familiar; if not, you’ll find it easy to pick up. However, the mobile app isn’t just a clone of the board game: it adds two new game modes with new victory conditions, challenging you to create the longest path of any player or the path with the most loops. Animations and board modelling are detailed and lifelike, even though that’s largely superfluous in this abstract game.
An almost-perfect board game port
If you like relaxing, contemplative multiplayer board games, Tsuro – The Game of the Path is an excellent choice. There are a few flaws in the implementation, but overall it’s almost as close as you could get to actually playing with friends.
