Free society-building game, updated version of settlers

Townsmen 6 is a feudal settlement-building game based on the original settlers franchise, the object of the game is for players to build a thriving society from scratch. Set during the French Revolution, players aid the townsmen in forging an independent free society, the ultimate aim is to colonise France and overthrow the hated King!

Gameplay

Townsmen 6 starts with players building simple houses to develop a hunter-gatherer society,.firstly, players develop and build hunting and fishing cabins to feed the population. Investing in research allows players to develop more sophisticated buildings such as bakeries and forges, however, resources need managing carefully – players need to save money, and not attending to the population’s needs will make the peasants unhappy, causing them to stop work. Players need to manage supply chains, mining, smelting and blacksmithing need careful planning to manage resources and make the town productive, windmills need wheat, and bakers need flour. As the game progresses, players can take over new provinces, however, the King is looking to thwart the townsmen, and ultimate victory means building a powerful army to topple him. The game has seasonal cycles that affect farming, and weather that affects the productivity of the population.

Playability

The cute animation of Townsmen 6 makes it an enjoyable game, and the degree of planning makes it really fun, however, some parts of the game are difficult and aren’t properly explained. The sandbox level is an added bonus.
