Play Connect Four on your iPhone
Some traditionalists argue that computer games are killing the good old fashioned board game. However, I would argue that video games are in fact helping to resurrect these old classics and make them more accessible for the youth of today.
Touch4 provides a perfect case in point. It allows iPhone users to play Connect Four on their device either against the computer, against a friend or against someone remotely via a network. The game recreates the magic of the original MB classic, especially the sound effects, which are stunningly realistic.
If you’re not familiar with the format, the object of Touch4 is to create lines of four (or more) colored disks either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Each player must take it in turns to drop their disks into the game board, trying to make their connection while at the same time not giving their opponent the chance to ‘connect four’.
It’s not just the presentation that’s great about Touch4 – it’s also the sheer range of gaming options that are available to you when you click the little ‘i’ icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Here you can choose from four game modes: one-player, two-player, Internet and network. You can also set the difficulty level, change the board size and select which player will start each game. The only change I would’ve liked would be to have the option to choose the color of the playing pieces.
One of the few niggles with Touch4 is that it’s not as touch-friendly as it should be. Those of you with larger-than-average fingers may struggle when selecting a row to drop your piece into. I managed to inadvertently mess up my game on a few occasions – and I have medium-sized fingers.
Overall though, you can’t knock Touch4 – it has been lovingly crafted in the form of the original, only this time you can play it anywhere and against anyone!
