A near-endless roguelike RPG adventure
Tor Eternum is a premium role-playing game for PC made by developer Sorcerous Gaming. It is a top-down action-adventure that features roguelike elements. In it, players will be exploring the maze-like structure of a mysterious dark tower to uncover its mysteries and find treasure along the way.
Similar to Streets of Rogue or Children of Morta, Tor Eternum offers frantic and fast-paced action through procedurally generated areas that can be freely customized and tailored. Players can choose from a variety of character classes, each one having unique traits and abilities to take advantage of in battles.
The enigmatic tower
The game revolves around the titular Tor Eternum, a mysterious dark tower filled with mysteries and secrets. In it, you play as a would-be adventurer looking to enter and explore its structures and discover what makes it tick. You can go at it solo or team up in an online multiplayer co-op that supports up to 10 players—probably a good idea given so many unknowns.
The game offers you five classes, ranging from your melee-focused knight and a magic-wielding battlemage, to name a couple. Waves upon waves of enemies will descend on you, with randomized bosses waiting for you at the end of each stage. Survive these encounters, and you have the chance to pick up some rare items which, in combination with stat and skill customizations, allow you to create some unique character builds.
Another great thing is that you can freely customize and adjust the difficulty levels of your playthrough—keep it low as you get your bearings and crank it up for a nice challenge. There are a couple of things that could be improved on, through. Level design and enemies can look and feel a little repetitive after a while. Also, there are some game imbalance issues with some bosses.
A frenetic and action-packed climb
Overall, Tor Eternum is a fun and challenging action roguelike that has plenty to like about it. You have multiple characters to choose from and build to your liking. There is a decent amount of enemy and boss variety, and the procedural nature of levels keeps things fresh and unpredictable. The option to play with your friends in online co-op is just icing on the top. Recommended.
