A roguelike Tomb Raider game for mobile
Tomb Raider Reloaded is a free action title created by Square Enix Ltd for mobile devices. It’s a top-down isometric adventure that is based on the popular Tomb Raider series of games. In it, players will explore dangerous underground tombs in search of hidden wonders and treasures.
Just like Archero, Tomb Raider Reloaded features a simple and intuitive control scheme that is well-suited to mobile screen and one-handed gameplay. Fans will run, shoot, and jump their way through its various levels filled with all kinds of enemies, traps, and obstacles that are standing in their way.
A new take on the Tomb Raider gameplay
Tomb Raider is one of the longest-running media franchises that started with a series of video games and was eventually adapted into multiple movies. The former was beloved by gamers for its varied and complex gameplay that mixed platforming, fast-paced shooting, and some open-world survival elements. Bringing the same experience to the mobile space is quite an undertaking, thus Tomb Raider Reloaded is taking a different approach.
Instead of replicating the same gameplay from its console and PC brethren, Tomb Raider Reloaded focused on providing a fun mobile experience. The result was a top-down isometric game that featured one-handed controls and could be played in portrait orientation. It features roguelike elements that let you stack abilities and perks, as well as explore procedurally-generated levels that are guarded by all kinds of creatures and even magical entities.
What’s more, you can discover ancient relics for more bonuses and blueprints that will let you craft a variety of powerful new weapons that will help you reach farther on your next run. The only thing of note with the game is its long loading times in between every level, which is rather unusual considering they are procedurally generated. Hopefully, it gets addressed in a future update.
It works surprisingly well
If you’ve been a long-time fan of the Tomb Raider series and you’ve been wondering how this game would fare, you’ll be glad to know that it turned out really good. The gameplay is a departure from the style of past releases but it surprisingly works and is more suited to the mobile gaming format. Give it a try and see for yourself.
