Norse-themed side scroller game for PC
Tiny Thor is a premium action game created by game developer Asylum Square for PC. It’s a side-scrolling platformer inspired by the classics and features 16-bit retro pixel art and graphics. It employs a clever game mechanic that revolves around enemy hitboxes.
As is with most platformers like Skul: The Hero Slayer or Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Tiny Thor is a game that will require quick reflexes and precise and time attacks from players. Those who want to give it a try and get a feel for its gameplay can check out its demo version.
Another game about Norse mythology?
Norse mythology has always been a popular source of themes and inspiration for various forms of media, be it a movie, TV show, or video game. It’s no surprise then that Tiny Thor is also cut from the same cloth. Contrary to its name, though, it’s less about the God of Thunder himself and more his magical hammer that enables him to channel his powers and strike down foes, Mjolnir.
In this game, you can use Mjolnir as a throwing weapon that can be aimed and bounced off surfaces to hit enemies in all sorts of ways and angles. In fact, the game was specifically designed around this premise. Mastering this mechanic will be crucial as enemies will also have specific hitboxes that you need to hit to deal damage or tear down protective armor and layering.
This ricocheting mechanic will also come in handy as you traverse various platforms that require some tricky maneuvers or to solve puzzles you’ll encounter along the way. Do note again that this is just a demo of what the full game will be. There is no set date for its release yet, so you can check in with its official Steam page for news and announcements.
It’s hammer time
There have been plenty of games about Norse gods like Thor so it comes as a bit of fresh air to see Tiny Thor focus attention on his weapon, Mjolnir, instead. The result is a fun and challenging platformer that allows for experimentation and variability to its combat. This one’s a no-brainer recommendation. Try out the demo for yourself and see for yourself.
