Modern look for a classic game

Tic-Tac-Toe is a tiny game created by Mike Stampone. It is a minimalist take on the classic paper-and-pencil game for two players. Users can take turns marking the Xs and Os in the 3×3 grid. The first mark must be X and the second is O. Players win by placing three of their marks in either a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row. If neither player can place three in a row, the program declares a cat game. This Windows version of the Tic Tac Toe board game should be easy-to-play considering users can download it for free. However, the game relies on the steadily declining Adobe Flash Player.  Another downside to this program is that its developer seems to have abandoned the project, and has put the domain up for sale. Users cannot expect any further updates or exciting levels to come from this software anymore.  It is best to return to playing the game on paper and pencil.

All source code is heavily commented to allow new programmers to get up to speed quickly. This particular product was written in ActionScript 3.

I wrote this software myself. The source code shows you how to use images, how to handle events, and how to add buttons. In addition, it uses several bit-boards for managing the state of the game. This allows the program to check for game over situations very quickly.

This software is meant for any level of game developer, whether it be aspiring, amateur, or professional. The source code is simple enough for the student, while introducing concepts that will be necessary for more complex games, such as chess.
