Grab as much as you can before Armageddon!
If you’re looking for something mindlessly pleasing to play, you could do a lot worse than The Wonderful End of the World.
The bizarre story is that the world is going to end, so you have to grab as much stuff as you can before that. Armageddon is coming in the form of a giant demon with the head of a fish, that is going to eat the world. If that makes no sense, it doesn’t matter!
The gameplay is essentially the same as the Japanese cult oddity Katamari Damacy. Just like that game you move around the environment, and anything smaller than you sticks to you. In turn this makes you bigger, and able to absorb ever larger objects.
Gameplay in colorful The Wonderful End of the World is controlled via the mouse and keyboard, or a gamepad. It’s really easy to pick up, and strangely addictive. Somehow it’s not quite as satisfying as Katamari, but it’s still pleasing. Graphically, it’s not ground breaking, but is cheerful. The music might not be to everyone’s tastes, but of course it can be turned off.
The demo’s a little short, but shows you how inventive and amusing it can be. Having a live dog sticking to you is strangely amusing! The second level has you absorbing video game history, starting with Pong, and moving to PacMan.
The Wonderful End of the World may be weird, like the game it’s based on, but it’s really good fun.
