A VR wave shooting game with only one gun
The Western Hunter looks like a hunting game, but it is actually a game where you shoot waves of targets that vaguely resemble animals. It plays on people’s fantasies of taking down wild animals, but it is very unfulfilling. It is like dressing a raw carrot up to look like a cream bun.
Shooting at moving targets over and over
The Western Hunter places you in a series of bland environments and then drops a bunch of different animals into your area so that you may shoot them. The animals have no personality, they do not act in any sort of animal characteristic-behavioral way to the point where the deer comes running at you with the same stepping stride and actions as the tiger. The game is viciously repetitive where the only thing that changes is when you let your dog out. However, the dog does nothing beside stick to the side of the animal you are trying to hunt in order to slow it down, but there are so many animals running around that it is like playing a weird version of Space Invaders. It wouldn’t be so bad if the animals reacted differently when they died, but they all simply fall over. There are not even any one-shot kills if you hit the head, you just keep mashing away at the shoot button until whatever you are vaguely aiming at falls over.
A very cheaply made game
The trailers make this game look like an exciting dive into the world of hunting, but all you are doing is shooting at waves of characters that are running around. There is no variety in the way that they die, act, or move. It is the same NPC you keep shooting at, but they modelled one to look like a tiger and another to look like a boar. The trailers and pictures make it look like it has variety and thrills, but it is the same thing over and over again. It is no more exciting than shooting the same stick figure over and over again.
