Atmospheric horror adventure game
The Parking Lot is a free adventure game created by an indie developer by the name of roguetaver. It is a first-person horror title that will have players search for their parked car in a creepy and disturbingly quiet parking lot in the dead of night.
Similar to EXPERIMENT: GROCERIES or Deep City, The Parking Lot employs graphics and art style that are reminiscent of classic PS1 games. It makes clever use of shadows and lighting in order to create an atmospheric experience that fans of the genre can experience and enjoy.
Parked car, creepy night
Everyone’s experienced it before. You drive somewhere and park in a large commercial lot intended for vehicles. You do your errands, go about your business, and come back to leave after. Only you forget where you parked, and things become a pseudo adventure to locate your ride from the bunch. The Parking Lot made a creepy horror game out of this idea.
In this game, it’s late at a dimly lit parking lot, with only a few cars left. You somehow forget where you parked yours and now have to look for it. As you roam in the eerie silence, strange things start happening around you. Vehicles are acting up, power to the street lights is constantly fluctuating, and you get the sense that there is a disturbing presence about.
What starts out as a simple search for your parked car turns into a scramble to get away from where you are as fast as possible. The only thing worth noting here is that it’s a short game in the sense that your playthrough will only last a few minutes depending on how you play. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting horror adventure that is worth experiencing.
Lock your doors
The Parking Lot takes a mundane and silly real-life experience and manages to turn it into a horror game. The graphics are nostalgic, the premise is oddly relatable, and the creepy and atmospheric presentation drives the gameplay home. If you’re a fan of PS1-style horror games and have some time to spare, this one is worth checking out and playing.
