Relive the popular sitcom in this game
The Office: Somehow We Manage is a simulation game developed by East Side Game Studio. As the name suggests, it is a free game based on the popular US sitcom of the same name. Here, you can relive some of your favorite episodes in a new, interactive, animated experience.
The gameplay of Somehow We Manage follows that of management games. Players must balance their profits with their expenses. Like other games developed by the studio, it will have a free-to-play style. However, the downside to it is that it can be very repetitive. Not to mention, the distasteful in-app purchases.
What is The Office: Somehow We Manage?
The premise of Somehow We Manage will be familiar to fans of The Office. It rehashes a plot point from early on in the series. Here, you will play to save the Scranton branch from downsizing by selling paper. To do so, you will balance your profits with the expenses. The game is broken down into episodes, each filled with milestones, such as automating a salesperson’s desk and collecting coffee.
More than the main game, Somehow We Manage has short-term events with a set number of milestones that give players rewards. You can then use these rewards to buy upgrades from the in-game store. However, note that these events are slightly different than the main campaign. Every desk, character, and decor starts over at level one. The currency is also specific to each event.
As it is based on the sitcom, fans can get to relive some of the iconic scenes. Even the iconic intro sequences have been remade into the game’s cartoonish form. Moreover, many of the series’ best jokes will be in the game, although they will be presented in a comic format. With this, the comedy does not quite land the same way when the actors deliver them on the show.
Should you play it?
Overall, The Office: Somehow We Manage is a fun and nostalgic game that will be right up the alley for The Office fans. It allows players to play through iconic moments of the series in an interactive way. However, while it is nostalgic to some degree, hardcore fans will find its depiction of the show a bit hollow. Not to mention, the gameplay can be repetitive.
