Keep your Mac and Blackberry synced via Bluetooth

If you’re a Mac user but your company contract phone is a Blackberry, then you need someway to ensure that your Mac is synchronized with your device. Blackberry’s own software is a horrible application called PocketMac which is a pain both to install and use and The Missing Sync for Blackberry is a much better solution.

The Missing Sync for BlackBerry enables you to do so wirelessly via Bluetooth meaning no messing around with cables. It also automatically syncs your Mac and Blackberry via Proximity Sync so you can keep all of your contacts, calendars, music, photos, videos, notes and more in sync.

Installation of The Missing Sync for BlackBerry is a bit of a pain however as it involves restarting your Mac which is highly inconvenient if you’ve got several browser tabs and applications open like I did. It also takes a while to set everything up. Once you’ve installed The Missing Sync for BlackBerry, you then have to install it on your Blackberry, pair up the two devices, define a password and the first synchronization has to be done using a USB cable.

It’s worth the hassle to get through this though. The application itself is well presented, easy to use and shows clearly everything that can be synced on your Mac. You can also access it via the menu bar where a drop down menu allows you to select things like iCal and iTunes that you’d like to access, and then in one click, sync them. Unfortunately however, there is no way to sync bookmarks as yet. There are several other useful options such as the ability to add different profiles for different devices, customize the toolbar and even on online shop for you to buy peripherals.

If all you’ve ever used is Blackberry’s proprietary software to sync your device, you’re in for a treat with The Missing Sync for Blackberry.
