Master the art of typing while laughing
The Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing Collection is a free set of comedic educational video games that lets you learn how to type fast while having fun simultaneously. Developed by Holy Wow Studios, this 2D pixelated indie game is a collection of old Flash games of the same name.
Similar to Epistory and Nanotale, The Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing Collection encourages fast typing and memorization of letters on the keyboard by giving you hilarious challenges. Take note, however, that this game is not a remaster or remake of the Flash games, thus the performance may be a little janky.
There’s a lot of drama around typing
In The Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing Collection, you play as a new student of Icarus Proudbottom—an avid fan of typing who aims to teach how to accurately and quickly type on the keyboard. He’s accompanied by the cute owl spirit Jerry and Mr. Filcure to put you through several varying exercises and exams on this activity. However, not all is at it seems in this school.
This game is split into two parts: the first story on the left of the launcher and the sequel on the right. There’s no need to unlock anything since you can quickly play the sequel’s five weekly episodes right from the start. The gameplay is simple enough, as you just have to type the characters displayed on the screen and take note of any spaces or punctuation.
Unfortunately, the game ignores the need for the Shift key so it’s not a complete educational typing tool. However, this means you can just ignore capitalization and such. While typing, you must take note of the Life Gauge—which has 20 hearts—and the Soul Gauge—which fills up as you type faster with the right letters and lets you restore hearts using the tilde. This can be tricky as you type quickly, though.
Could use some more features
All in all, The Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing Collection is a great addition to your collection of PC games—especially since Flash no longer works. Not only does it offer both games in the series for free, but it has numerous typing games to get you used to typing on your keyboard. However, it could still use some optimizations and the option to recognize Shift strokes.
