What’s Going On? And Why Is The Lake Green?
[the] green lake is a game where you are stuck at night being pursued by strange dangers. You have only a flashlight to navigate with as you stay alive and unearth ten data-boxes that will hopefully give you something to work with… and help unravel the mysteries of the titular green lake.
Descent to the Bottom
The game plays very similarly to others in its genre of first-person horror games with limited resources and dangerous monsters, most notably Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The largest differences are aesthetic, with greyscale largely being used and colours only being used to highlight notable or dangerous things. A lot else is the same: you’ll still die very suddenly at times, and a lot of the fear in the game comes from the fear of pursuit and shock of death.
Choice and Paralysis
Overall, [the] green lake tries its hardest and often succeeds at times. Though the story isn’t completely inspired, the game controls well enough and its graphics highlights ensure that it can be enjoyed and completed by a number of different players. There might be flaws with its presentation, but they’re fairly standard for its genre, so players of other similar games won’t find a lot to dislike here.
