A free indie game about the joys of labor
The Fertile Farm is a free simulation video game wherein you have to run a farm while taking care of your growing belly. Developed by Preggopixels, this is a 2D pixelated farming simulator and pregnancy simulator. It’s fairly accurate and even allows you to enable certain modes to make the process realistic in-game.
Like the Harvest Moon series, The Fertile Farm features traditional mechanics involved in this subgenre except caring for ranch animals. From planting, growing, and harvesting crops to gathering herbs in the valley, this game has enough cyclical content to last you quite a while in your playthrough.
The beauty of fertility
The relaxing story of The Fertile Farm centers around Clara, a young housewife who now lives on a farm with her small family. She’s already pregnant at the start of the game and your goal is to keep her healthy so that her pregnancy passes smoothly. This involves eating healthy food, sleeping enough, sating your cravings, and collecting food ingredients from your farm to ensure their nutritional value.
While those all sound easy enough, the addition of a pregnancy mechanic actually complicates your usual farming game life. For one, it includes realistic aspects such as side effects and encumbrance. You can also only speed up the pregnancy by keeping Clara healthy. Some of these aspects can be disabled—like the breastfeeding and lactation modes. However, on the flip side, the farming mechanics aren’t as well-developed as they should be.
Fortunately, the game is open-ended and you can just pass the time trying to see how many kids Clara can have. You can enable an optional birthing scene that has no nudity and even try Hyper Mode—wherein Clara can get really big and give birth to more than the normal amount of babies in one round of pregnancy. The numerous features here really make it an accurate pregnancy simulator.
The farming mechanics need more love
Overall, The Fertile Farm is a great option for a different kind of farming simulator. It adds more content for the accuracy of the pregnancy gameplay—from realistic side effects to cravings—although this does sacrifice the farming gameplay a lot and leaves it a bit disappointing. However, if you want to take a break from the tedious farming in-game, this game offers much to all players.
